The world-class Cardiovascular Center at the University of Michigan is a 350,000 square-foot facility that includes a 24-bed surgical post-procedure ICU, 24 vascular care beds, nine cardiac procedure rooms, and 36 clinic exam rooms.
W.J. O’Neil was the prime mechanical contractor on the new six-story building and was pre-qualified for the project based on its work on other U-M projects. We installed 180,000 linear feet of piping including all the medical gas. We also were responsible for the plumbing, sheet metal, temperature control, HVAC, high-pressure steam work and equipment installations.
We ran copper pipe to all the Operating Rooms for medical gases including oxygen, nitrogen, and waste anesthesia. WJO certified installers did all the work to NFBA code. Medical Gas Management (MGM) certified our medical gas lines and praised our work because it was so clean. We completed our work on time despite numerous project challenges.
