Project Overview

Volkswagen awarded the mechanical packages for their automotive plant in Chattanooga to W.J. O’Neil Company. This included piping systems that deliver gas, compressed air, chilled water, hot water, and steam throughout the the Assembly, Body and Paint buildings. WJO also designed, fabricated and installed rainwater recovery skids for two bathroom groups as part of the VW LEED certification.

WJO also received the contract to lay out, fabricate and install one of the largest VRF systems in the country at that time. The complex arrangement was comprised of state-of-the-art equipment and over 21,000 feet of copper pipe. WJO used an intricate rack assembly approach for rapidly installing the City Multi building comfort system which services the entire suite of administrative offices for the plant. Our Controls group helped insure precise placement and routing of all equipment to maximize system efficiency and deliver a quality installation.

All pipe, skid and rack work – which were comprised of materials such as carbon steel, stainless and PVC – was fabricated in our Chattanooga facility. This state-of-the-art shop gave WJO tremendous flexibility and quality control all while reducing costs and maintaining schedules in a controlled, safe environment.
